My mind conjures many questions in the early hours of the morning: some of them are reasonable, rational even. For example, “Is it worth the embarrassment of being the crappiest one in the yoga class to reduce my aches and pains?” (No.) Some are less sensible. For example, “If a big, green, slobbery monster burst into the bedroom right now would I sacrifice the dogs life to save myself?” (Sadly, yes.)
One thought that wandered through my mind, somewhere between reasonable and weird, was that traditional clothing buttons were really ready-made tiny frames.
It also occurred to me that it was my duty to see if I could make earrings that were beyond cuteness using them. . .
Once again, Google images came to the rescue – search criteria “cats in clothes”: that could keep you entertained all by itself. I know it did me, for a good ten minutes. In the end I picked out this guy, but trust me it was not an easy choice. . .
First I put the image into Powerpoint so I could squish it into a circle shape rather than an oval. Then I messed around with different sizes, until it looked button-sized (a highly technical matter).
Then it was just a case of cut and mod podge :
I superglued some posts to the back and voila. Obviously not everyone appreciates cats in clothes (although I can’t imagine why not), but pretty much anything could go in here. More than worth the effort, I assure you.
Love, Em

OMG – this is absolutely BRILLIANT. I never ever noticed this before, but you are totally ingenious to see the frame possibility in buttons. I have been blind. I have a collection of about a gazillion buttons, a whole book on button jewellry, but I never ever saw this simple and straightforward use of larger ones. I am running to my collection and Google Images immediately!
OK, firstly these are totally adorable earrings, so we’re good there. However, the cat on the earrings is clearly not the cat in the big picture. Different clothes entirely. What trickery is this?
oh my god your totally right. I think I went in twice to pull pictures and must have pulled a different picture for the blog. Wow, there must be a whole world of these pictures.
Love these! I want to make some.
Thanks so much, If you do whip up your own pair, please send us a picture, we’d love to see it.
Magnets, pendants, pins, hair clips~~~~there is a whole world of ideas. Thanks for the seed to more imagination!!1
Thanks so much, I love sharing stuff, it gives me the excuse to try out all my odd ideas.
I am a button addict and have done loads of different things with them and I have never thought of this.
AWESOME FANTASTIC GREAT
thanks for sharing.
I name and link you as my inspiration.
I have to say, I think it is the only truly clever idea i’ve had in my entire life. I doubt I will ever have such a good one again. So glad you liked it.
